Bioregional_Assessment_Programme_Catchment-scale Land Use Management (CLUM)

Abstract

This data and its metadata statement were supplied to the Bioregional Assessment Programme by a third party and are presented here as originally supplied.

Catchment Scale Land Use Management (CLUM) compiled November 2012 (data ranges from 1997 to 2009, scale ranges from 1:25,000 to 1:250,000), The most current catchment scale land use dataset for Australia has been compiled using nationally agreed land use mapping principles and procedures of the Australian Land Use and Management (ALUM) Classification version 7. The land use datasets were collected as part of State and Territory mapping programs and the Australian Collaborative Land Use and Management Program (ACLUMP). The data vary in currency (1997 to 2009) and scale (1:25,000 to 1:250,000).

The updated dataset is a combined 50m raster for Australia and includes new data for Tasmania, Victoria, parts of southwest Western Australia and the following Queensland natural resource management regions: Wet Tropics, Burdekin, Mackay-Whitsunday, Burnett Mary and Fitzroy. While there is no new data for New South Wales, edge-matching errors have been corrected.

All contributing polygon datasets were re-gridded and mosaiced to minimise resampling errors. NODATA voids were filled with Australian Bureau of Statistics meshblocks land use attributes with modifications based on 1:250,000 scale topographic data for built up areas published by Geoscience Australia in 2006, land tenure data compiled by the Bureau of Rural Sciences (BRS) in 2007, and native and plantation forest data compiled by BRS in 2007.

Full Metadata can be viewed within the dataset.

Dataset History

Beginning Date: 1997 Ending Date: November 2012 (Data provided as at November 2012 with actual currency of most recent data being 2009 - see Figure 1) Dates of the land use mapping vary across the country depending on when states/catchments/map sheets were mapped. Catchment scale mapping is produced by combining land tenure and other types of land use information, fine-scale satellite data and information collected in the field. Mapping from many State and Territory agencies are combined and gridded at 50m.
