Abstract
The dataset was derived by the Bioregional Assessment Programme from multiple source datasets. The source datasets are identified in the Lineage field in this metadata statement. The processes undertaken to produce this derived dataset are described in the History field in this metadata statement.
This dataset compiles surface water electrical conductivity measurements from streams in the Qld and NSW part of the Clarence-Moreton bioregion. The shapefile contains both the maximum and minimum electrical conductivity observed at a site.
Dataset History
Surface water monitoring sites within the Clarence-Moreton bioregion were extracted from the Qld DNRM Surface Water database and NSW Surface Water Quality database using ArcGIS.
Only sites where multiple measurements (time series data) exist were considered. The aim of looking at maximum and minimum is to determine if there are any significant changes of electrical conductivity over time, attributed for example to a response to climatic variability or interaction with different geological units.
It is acknowledged that the frequency of measurements at different sites can be very different; at some sites, the electrical conductivity has been measured many times, elsewhere only relatively few times. This may introduce a bias. However, in this study this dataset was only used as a first point of reference (or high level assessment) to understand groundwater-surface water interaction at the regional scale.
