Galilee Hydrochemistry: Quality control for Chloride model recharge v02

Abstract

This dataset was derived by the Bioregional Assessment Programme. The parent dataset is identified in the Lineage field in this metadata statement. The processes undertaken to produce this derived dataset are described in the History field in this metadata statement.

This dataset is an interpretation of the Water Analysis table in the QLD Groundwater Database (GUID: a5c5cbdb-1152-43f7-9533-a123027b7ce1). The dataset contains a table where each bore in the Galilee subregion, from the Water Analysis table, has been validated (retained) based on its chloride value, and assigned to a hydrogeological formation, based on location and depth. These chloride values are used to estimate groundwater recharge for their respective hydrogeological formations.

Spatial, point feature classes have been created for each formation. Constraining ('dummy') points have been added to a number of the point feature classes to reduce the recharge value where interpolation estimates are too high.

Purpose

This dataset provides validated chloride values in tabular and point format for the estimation of groundwater recharge in the Galilee subregion, based on a 'Chloride mass balance' estimate.

Dataset History

This dataset contains an extract from the QLD Groundwater Database, Water Analysis table (GUID: a5c5cbdb-1152-43f7-9533-a123027b7ce1) of bores within the Galilee subregion.

Bores were assigned to a hydrogeological formation based on location and depth.

Chloride values were validated and retained based on known chloride ranges for each formation.

Spatial, point feature classes for each formation were produced in ArcGIS using the Longitude and Latitude fields and x and y values.

Constraining points were added manually in ArcMap to some formations where interpolation was estimating too high a recharge value. These points have an RN of 99999 and a JK_Strat value of Constraints Average. The Chloride values for these points are taken as the average of the surrounding bore's chloride values.
