SSB Preliminary Assessment Extent inputs v01

Abstract

The dataset was derived by the Bioregional Assessment Programme from multiple source datasets. The source datasets are identified in the Lineage field in this metadata statement. The processes undertaken to produce this derived dataset are described in the History field in this metadata statement.

Polygon shapefiles of the component inputs to the South Sydney Basin subregion Prelimnary Assessment Extent (PAE). The Preliminary Assessment Extent (PAE) has been derived from the maximum extents of the input surface water PAE and A 20km buffer around the mine point locations for the South Sydney Basin subregion. These are the shapefiles that represent these component extents.

For more information on developing PAEs see M02 Compiling water-dependent assets at http://www.bioregionalassessments.gov.au/submethodology.shtml

Dataset History

The final PAE is the result of a UNION (ArcGIS function) of the following polygon areas. This dataset contains the inputs of the UNION as follows:

A:

A 20km buffer around the mine point locations for

Airly (underground)

Angus Place -(underground)

Appin (underground)

Clarence (underground)

Cullen Valley (underground)

Dendrobium (underground)

Invincible (open cut)

Pine Dale (open cut)

Russell Vale (underground)

Springvale (underground)

Tahmoor (underground)

West Cliffe (underground)

Wongawilli (underground)

that has been clipped to the Sydney Basin bioregion boundary.

and;

B:

A 500m buffer around selected 1:250k Topo streamlines flowing out of the underground mine areas, they being

Angus Place - (Wolgan River)

Airly - (unnamed)

Cullen Valley (unnamed)

Springvale - (unnamed)

Clarence - (Wallangambe River)

Appin/West Cliffe - (Georges River)

Dendrobium - (Cordeaux River)

Russell Vale (Cataract River)

Tahmoor - (unnamed)

Wongawilli - (unnamed)

The 20km mine buffer takes in most of the buffered stream areas with the exception of the eastern most sections of the Wolgan and Warrangambe, thus resulting in the snakelike extrusions in the north eastern part of the PAE shapefile and another extending northwest from Cullen Valley beyond the bioregion boundary.
